Matrescence

Noun: The process of becoming a mother

I am passionate about maternal mental health and supporting mamas.

Matrescence, coined by Dana Raphael (1973), is a term to describe the psychological, emotional, and identity changes that women experience as they transition into motherhood. The process of becoming a mother is a hugely significant developmental passage in a woman’s life. Similar to adolescence, matrescence involves a period of significant growth, self-discovery, and adaptation to new roles and responsibilities.

.As a therapist, I offer a safe and nonjudgmental space for clients to explore their emotions, concerns, and experiences during this transformative time. Together, we'll work to address any struggles you may be facing, develop coping strategies, and cultivate self-compassion as you navigate the complexities of motherhood. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or simply seeking guidance, I'm here to support you on your matrescence journey.

The old adage rings true, it takes a village to raise a child. Let me be part of your village.

Matrescence is the transition a woman undergoes when she becomes a mother. It’s a radical identity shift, a transformation like no other, and nothing less than the beginning of a new life.
